Missions Hills Community Preschool (MHCP) was founded in 1971 as an
outreach ministry of the Mission Hills United Church of Christ. Its
mission is to serve families and children in the San Diego
community.
MHCP offers programs for children 2 to 5 years of age. Its programs
are designed to support the social, emotional, cognitive, physical,
and spiritual development of typically developing children.
The preschool is operated on a non-discriminatory basis, offering
equal treatment and access to services without regard to ethnicity,
religion, ability, or family structure. MHCP is licensed by the
State of California Department of Social Services, and abide by all
state regulations. In addition, they follow the guidelines set forth
by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Church members have priority on the waiting list and also receive a
10% discount on tuition.
We all know that the early years, from zero to five, are truly
formative years in a child’s life. For this reason, MHCP takes great
care to ensure that your child’s first school experience is a
positive one. At MHCP each child is honored as an individual. They
take pleasure in nurturing their sense of wonder and creativity, and
in helping them learn about friendships and life and the world
around them.
We want you to know that you are welcome at MHCP and that your child
will be well cared for, valued, and loved.
Mission Hills Community Preschool adheres to the philosophy that
young children learn through play. When children play, it gives them
an opportunity to understand and master their feelings, and to learn
how to interact socially. It enables them to learn new skills and to
learn about the world around them. A play environment fosters
independence, freedom of choice, and a curiosity to want to
experiment and explore the materials and activities provided.
MHCP embraces an anti-bias approach in their curriculum planning,
being sensitive to the unique cultures and backgrounds within each
class. In their celebrations, commonalities are emphasized and focus
on building a cohesive school community is affirmed.
There are three teachers in each of the two younger classes, and two
teachers in the Pre-K Combo class, making the ratio of teachers to
children 1:5 for the younger classes, and 1:7 for the Pre-K Combo
class.
