Mission Hills UCC Wedding Policy
In June 2006, this church voted, by an overwhelming
majority, to become an Open and Affirming (ONA) congregation. Our ONA
statement includes the provision:
We welcome and celebrate all who seek the experience of God's
unconditional love regardless of their ability, age, cultural background,
economic status, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious
heritage, or sexual orientation.
This church strives to uphold this welcoming statement in all situations.
Most recently, in light of the California Supreme Court’s
decision which has legalized same-sex marriages, this church is being called
upon to perform a number of same-sex weddings, which will now include the
signing of a marriage license. Same-sex weddings are nothing new for this congregation. Now that the state of California has reached a position of
legalizing same-sex marriages, this church has the opportunity to treat all
people who come in search of God’s blessing upon their union with complete
equality.
